Riding the Natural Currents

by Kathy Ruff

Look at this picture and imagine, if you can, the sound of rushing water as it travels down the Mauch Chunk Creek (pronounced ‘crick’) toward the Lehigh River.

Every day we’re inundated with sounds — some subtle, some harsh, some pleasing, some not.  For me, the sound of moving water stirs something inside me.  It creates a sense of peace and naturalness.  I see the water as it flows naturally from one place to another, meandering around river rocks, downed trees and other obstacles.
I believe life is meant to be lived the same way, riding the natural currents and moving forward despite the obstacles we face.  Everyone must find what feels natural to them, and what’s natural for one may not be for another.  It would be natural for me to enjoy a bike ride along the trail, but that would be totally unnatural for my mother.
Do you know the natural currents in your life?  Are you riding them?
