To Know or Not to Know

by Kathy Ruff

“Leave off that excessive desire of knowing; therein is found much distraction. There are many things the knowledge of which is of little or no profit to the soul.” Thomas A’Kempis

I have no idea how my tomato plants got to be as tall as I am or how electricity can be harnessed so I can plug in and use it for all these gadgets created over the past century or two. I have no idea how a picture can jump into my television or computer or how life on Earth really began. I have no idea why I let myself get upset about things over which I have no control. I have no idea why people sometimes do the things they do.

I have no idea about a lot of things…and you know what? For the most part, it doesn’t bother me anymore. I’ve learned to trust in a Higher Power and from that trust I’ve gained serenity and all the wisdom I’ll ever need when I need it.

How important is it?
