Ready or Not, A New Year Comes

Winter at Boat Launch A, Mauch Chunk Lake Park, Jim Thorpe, PA

Today’s the eve of New Year’s Eve.  Soon another year falls into the past and a new year lies ahead.  The challenges, sadness and disappointments of 2012 can be let go, and the hope for opportunities, love and enjoyment hold promise for a fresh start.

Are you ready?  I guess I’m as ready as I’m going to be.  I had hoped to clean my desk (again!) and organize my work, but I found many excuses to prevent that from happening.  It snowed…it was Christmas…my sinus medicine made me lethargic…etc., etc.  They may be true, but they are just excuses.  If I really felt it was a priority, it would be done.

Excuses be gone!  Ready or not, 2013 will come onto the record books.  So I’ve decided to look at it a different way.

I will take a little time over the next few days to prioritize.  What is really important to me?  What do I want to accomplish versus what do I have to do?  For example, I would love to get back on my bike this spring after two years of very little riding due to hip restrictions.  That’s important to me because I love riding on the trails.  I love the early-morning chatter of birds, nature around me and the feeling of accomplishment that comes from having my exercise in by 8 a.m.  So I have to work at keeping my hips limber and getting my lungs back into shape.  For me that means preparation…day by day.

So today’s the opportunity to get a fresh start, just as New Year’s Day offers a fresh start for a new year.  Ready or not, here it comes…a new year. Are you ready?

Hmmm Getting back to playing your guitar would be another nice goal 🙂 Hope this year is better for all. It can be a new start for anyone with the willpower to move ahead.
