Today is Independence Day, a day celebrating an event occurring over 230 years ago where the founders of our nation stood up against the oppression and tyranny of the day. Considered rebels, they fought for independence, freedom and a better way of life.
Today I have the freedom to ride my bike on the trail, to cross the bridge if I so choose, and to do so many other things as a result of those rebels. Yet I sometimes wonder if I really have all the freedoms all our troops have fought so hard for over and over again since 1776. I often wonder: How can we still be needing to make more laws — and more lawbreakers as a result — after all this time?
Freedom comes at a cost….the cost of lives….personal responsibility…self-reliance. While most of us can’t come close to the major sacrifices given over the years by those who fought (and continue to fight) for our freedom, we can take personal responsibility to do what we can and be self-reliant. I really think if we all did this, we wouldn’t need any laws at all.
Are you willing to pay the price?
While limiting our behavior to legal activities, we need to free ourselves from additional and unnecessary limitations imposed upon us by others or by ourselves. We need to become rebels against all forms of oppression and enjoy our independence.
