Open the Present

Close your eyes for 5 seconds and then re-open your eyes….go ahead do it…it’s only 5 seconds!

What did you see with your eyes shut?  Darkness?  Colors? What did you see when you opened your eyes?  A cluttered desk? A computer screen?  This picture below?

No matter what we individually saw, we all saw the same thing…the present moment.  It may have looked different for each of us, yet it was the same.  That present moment is gone and a new one is here.  So goes what we call life, moment by moment.
Each moment is a gift (or a ‘present’) we all have.  Do you use it?
I know many times I haven’t, and you’re probably like me.  The perfect example is when you’re driving somewhere and suddenly you realize you’re much further along in your travels than you realized.  You don’t recall passing that gorgeous tree with flaming red leaves or seeing the bright orange colors radiating through the sky at the sunset.
We can choose to open the ‘present’ and experience it as it occurs or rush through it preoccupied with other thoughts on the way to work or an appointment or home.
How about we try to open the ‘present’ today?

1 Response to Open the Present

  1. Each moment, each day, each week is something we shouldn't take for granted. Wasting our present, thinking we will have more time in the future is a mistake. We need to appreciate nature as each day speeds us toward a new season. We need to heal fractured relationships, help a friend, and improve ourselves while we have these precious moments of life.
