Hundreds of walkers, runners and bikers each week pass by Mickey as he proudly offers his message: Have a great day!
As you walk along the trail, all you have to do is turn your head a little to the right to see him. There are no weeds in front of him. He’s not hiding but in plain view for all to see.
But his message may get drowned out by his location. He sits at the end of stone wall where Lock #8 of the Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor ends.
The rock formations that comprise the lock and the sounds of the water moving through the canal attract the passerby’s attention more than Mickey’s silent message. Though the color of his flower may attract the eye, the view and sounds of the natural beauty that surrounds his location may make his message unnoticed.
I wonder how many obvious messages like Mickey’s get drowned out by the ‘noises’ that surround them.
The positive side of all this is that if one is observant, open to his/her surroundings and aware, the message is there. For those who are aware, hopefully they will heed the message.
