A lady (Lorrie) walked over to me as she put her cart in the corral in the Walmart parking lot where I was standing. She asked me my name and handed me this thankfulness journal. I asked her her name. I told her my name and asked her why she gave this to me. Her response made me aware that loving connections still exists.
Lorrie told me she meditated and ‘heard’ God telling her to start a thankfulness journal. God then told her to share that.
The note Lorrie wrote on the inside cover of the journal spoke volumes:
“You are a blessing in so many lives. This is a thankfulness journal. 2 minutes a day. Positives only. What makes you happy, smile, or brings joy. I am thankful for you. Lorrie.”
There was a little heart before her name, but my technical ignorance doesn’t allow me to put that in.
I thanked her for the journal, told her I was a writer and gave her a hug. I told her I was thankful she was following her guidance, something I had not done when my inklings first showed up.
The impact of this encounter
I’ve been journaling for decades. I understand how what I call inklings is like a voice inside my head that guides me to write about or do something. Experience over the years dictates I listen to that voice and act on it.
When I came home, I wrote in the journal about the encounter. I wrote I was also thankful that people such as Lorrie still exist and for the Universe (God) allowing our paths to cross.
This morning, I wrote in it again, thanking Lorrie for inspiring me to improve my life by using this thankfulness journal. I’m also thankful for today’s rain that’s watering the plants in my vegetable garden. Thankfulness for the morning sounds of crickets and water cascading over the lock rounded out my entry.
An attempt years ago to list five things for which I was grateful every morning never worked for me. This is different since it has made me aware of what brings joy to me. It also allows me to relive those feelings as I write.
How about you? Why not try a thankfulness journal? For what are you thankful? Please share.
